Our Year 11 and Year 13 Art students recently had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a two-day workshop led by visiting artist James Lake. Across the two days, students worked closely with James, learning about his artistic practice, creative process and approach to sculpture.
Students were guided through the process of designing and constructing their own sculptural heads from cardboard, exploring shape, form, structure and layering as their pieces developed. It was brilliant to see the sculptures gradually come to life, with each student creating an individual response and developing their ideas throughout the workshop.
The experience gave students a valuable opportunity to work directly with a professional artist, strengthen their practical and creative skills and gain inspiration that they can take forward into their current Art projects. The finished sculptures were incredibly varied and showcased the creativity, hard work and individuality of our Year 11 and Year 13 students.
