In March, UWE hosted the first Girls in Tech workshop event which was designed to encourage girls to consider a future career in one of the technology industries. Mr Bogle (ICT) and Mrs Barlett-Cosway (Careers) accompanied a combination of Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 iMedia and Computer Science students to the event.
We recently embarked on an exciting journey to the robotics lab at UWE for Girls in Technology, where we got hands-on experience of working with Arduino Uno microcontrollers. Through a series of interactive tasks, we explored how robotics can be used to control key factors in space, such as temperature regulation and equipment automation. This hands-on approach, which allowed GCSE Computer Science students to apply our classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, also introduced us to pathways involving Robotics.
Following our work in the robotics lab, we had the opportunity to engage with professionals from HP to explore the potential of artificial intelligence in protecting the environment. Ideas ranged from developing eco-friendly transport solutions to using AI for wildlife preservation. We gained an insight into how innovation can drive sustainability, broadened our understanding of technology’s role in environmental efforts and the event left us inspired to make an impact for a greener planet. Adona, Year 11
I thought that the event at UWE was fun and informative. I'm really glad I got to go. We learned how to use AI to guess passwords, about a new coding app, about the E-sports industry and how AI can help the environment. The last session with HP (Hewlett Packard) was my favourite. Keira, Year 9
