Home to College Transport

Bristol

With effect from September 2012 Bristol City Council withdrew free transport for pupils. Therefore the only pupils entitled to free school transport will be those who receive free school meals or whose families are in receipt of income support or the highest level of working tax credits. Proof of this will be required by Bristol City Council. Transport arrangements have been put in place in consort with Bristol City Council which parents are required to fund.

Parents should check their eligibility for free transport by telephoning the Home to College Transport Team on 0117 9037671 at Bristol City Council.

First Bus Public Bus Services operate number’s 3 and 4 from Broadmead, Clifton, Stoke Bishop, Shirehampton, Avonmouth, Henbury and Cribbs Causeway. Please note: 18/18A was withdrawn on 3^rd September 2017.

North Somerset

With effect from September 2008, North Somerset Council withdrew free transport to denominational schools.  The only pupils who continue to be eligible for free transport to St Bede’s are those in receipt of free school meals, on income support or the highest level of working tax credits.  Proof of this is required by North Somerset Council.

Transport arrangements have been put in place in consort with North Somerset Council, which parents are required to fund.

A charitable trust ‘The Blessed Edward Powell Transport Trust’ has been set up and may be able to offer assistance with home to school transport costs.

Two coaches operate covering Nailsea, Clevedon, Portishead and Weston-Super-Mare. Parents who have any queries about these arrangements should contact reception on 0117 3772200.

South Gloucestershire

South Gloucestershire provides free transport for pupils attending voluntary aided faith schools only where it is their nearest mainstream school to home address, and it is over the statutory walking distance.

Children aged 11-16 years will also be entitled to free travel assistance if they are entitled to targeted free school meals, attending the nearest faith school on faith grounds and the distance to that school is between 2 and 15 miles.

In liaison with South Gloucestershire Council the College has put in place transport arrangements which, if accessed, parents will be required to fund, unless they are entitled to assistance with home to school transport.
