French at Key Stage 3:

All pupils begin their time at St Bede’s studying French for the duration of the first term.  The topics studied relate to their own experience of life at home, school and education, free time and holidays, and comparing these with life in France. Practical skills when visiting abroad are also developed.


French at Key Stage 4:

Students may opt to take French in years 10 and 11, provided that the language has been studied in year 9.

Assessment at GCSE:

Speaking: 30%  (2 controlled assessment tests Year 10 )

Listening: 20%  (final examination Summer Year 11)

Reading: 20%  (final examination Summer Year 11 )
