Art at Key Stage 3:

All pupils begin their time at St Bede’s studying Art by exploring tone and experimenting with a range of media. They also look at colour theory and how artists both modern and contemporary have been inspired by this. Over the course they produce work which is 2D and 3D. At the end of year 8 they can choose to take either Art or Textiles where they will continue to develop and expand on new and existing skills.

Art and Textiles at Key Stage 4:

Students may opt to take either Art or Textiles in years 10 and 11, provided that the subject has been studied in year 9.

Exam board course details: AQA GCSE Art and AQA GCSE Art Textiles

Assessment at GCSE:

Coursework/Portfolio of work: 60% of overall grade

Controlled Test (Practical – 10 hours): 40% of overall grade

Art at Key Stage 5:

The Art department offer AQA AS/A level Art & Design

Assessment at AS level:

Coursework/Portfolio of work: 50% of overall grade (25% of A Level grade)

Controlled Test (Practical – 5 hours): 50% of overall grade (25% of A Level grade)

Assessment at A2 level:

AS Level marks/grade: 50% of the overall mark/grade

Coursework/Portfolio of work: 25% of overall grade

Controlled Test (Practical – 15 hours): 25% of overall grade
